Skin Test for Food Allergies
Food allergy test by skin testing
Skin prick tests for food allergy are conducted by an allergist/dermatologist and results are given within 15-30 minutes. The test is usually done on the forearm or back by pricking the skin with a small, sterile probe that contains a tiny amount of the food allergen. This sort of test is not painful but can be uncomfortable (mostly itchy), and is considered positive if a weal (resembling a mosquito bite bump) develops at the site. The size of a weal does not necessarily predict how severe your reaction might be if you eat that food.
For the “Skin Test for Food Allergies”, clients/patients have to keep themselves intact and avoid applying antipruritics, abirritants, or anti-itch drugs for a week before the test day, and the test results will be accurately informed within 30 minutes.
